Luxury Cotswold Cottage

Hillcrest Cottage

Welcome to Hillcrest Cottage with far reaching views in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Also referred to as the “Undiscovered Cotswolds” where the Stroud hills, valleys & villages share a wealth of history, exciting geography, artisan characters and boast of their quirky cafes and gastro-pubs with winter log fires!

This characterful Cotswold stone cottage with beams and oak framed windows, is decorated in an eclectic vintage style, but with all the modern comforts. It is well equipped, has quality furnishings, centrally heated and with a cosy log burner for snug lock-in evenings. There are STUNNING VIEWS from all rooms, but especially from the main bedroom and bedroom balcony!

The cottage comfortably sleeps up to 4 guests + baby in a cot, but makes for a perfect romantic getaway in the Cotswolds for couples too. Lots of thoughtful, homely touches make this cottage extra special for “home from home” getaways and special occasion treats.

LOCATED NEAR TO STROUD

About the area

There is genuinely so much to do and see from the doorstep. You will find so much information at your fingertips in the cottage folder of all things local to plan your days, but the cottage is well situated for trips further afield too.

Stroud

Stroud is a town, but to enjoy the delights of Strouds’ award winning farmers market, save the visit for a Saturday morning, maybe taking the canal walk. The Saturday Farmers Market is a must to experience some of the Stroud buzz, as well as bringing home a few local foodie delights to sample at the cottage. (2 miles)

Painswick

Queen of the Cotswolds, with its sleepy streets, intimate restaurants surrounding Painswick church/ graveyard and home to local concerts. On the outskirts are the Rococo Gardens famed for its follies and its winter carpet of snowdrops. (5 miles)

Nailsworth

Characterful and quirky with its individual shops, a great source for fashion, interiors and gift shopping as well as the amazing Williams Kitchen & Deli, popular for its fresh fish.(2 miles)

Minchinhampton

Home to Princess Anne from where hosts the Gatcombe horse trials. The Kitchen being a great coffee shop and homemade afternoon tea. (1 mile)

Tetbury

Where antique shops dominate the high street and is home to Highgrove the country estate of King Charles . Close by is Westonbirt and the world famous Westernbirt Arboretum, a spectacle of trees especially in the autumn. (6 miles)

Cirencester

another town. It boasts of an award winning museum with artifacts, mosaics etc dating back to the Roman times when it was Corinium. But also has lovely cafés and small restaurants hidden in the back streets and a regular indoor market in the Cornhall. (9 miles). I would detour to the Bell at Sapperton, a quintessential English country pub, for eating out on the way back to the cottage.

About the views

Because the cottage is designed to make the most of the views, it is only recognisable once in the gates, in its semi-rural setting.

The cottage enjoys views both near and far.
Simply watch the graceful gliders from Aston Down or Nymphsfield Gliding clubs, taking advantage of the valley thermals. Regular buzzards entertain on the wing too. While on the ground the cattle on small holdings and walkers rambling through fields and along the country lanes. The distant view of Rodborough and Minchinhampton NT commons with free roaming cows roam from May to November, is a favourite. Amidst the cows and walkers are the golfers playing on the oldest public golf course in England. In the middle is Henry V111’s old hunting Lodge, now the Old Lodge pub and restaurant, one of our locals!

In the distance is Randwick, where the lights sparkle in the view at night. But below Hillcrest cottage is the River Frome and Stroudwater canal, currently under refurbishment but a nice stroll for Strouds’ award winning Farmers Market on a casual Saturday morning.
